Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Aubrey Norton, today hailed the contributions of the party’s Founding leader, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham, as the greatest leader that Guyana has ever produced.
The party today commemorated the 41st death anniversary of its leader and the first Executive President of Guyana.
In honouring the life and works of the late President, Mr. Norton said all of Guyana, and in particular party supporters, must be proud of the contributions that Burnham made to build the country and ensure inclusivity.
He described the party’s Founding leader as a “corrupt-free man of integrity” and said a Guyana today, would be well-ahead with a leadership like that of Forbes Burnham.

“To date, the evidence suggest that Burnham was a man of integrity, that Burnham not a corrupt President and had Burnham been around today, oil resources would have served the people of Guyana, because even without oil resources he ensured that the people of Guyana were housed, they had food—we always produced the food we need. We have nothing to be ashamed of, Burnham’s contribution to removing the social inequalities in this country is unmatched, “Norton told those gathered.
Norton said while there have been efforts to rewrite history about the contributions made by Forbes Burnham, his efforts to build Guyana cannot be denied.
He credited the PNC Founder for expanding the country’s road network and public infrastructure, introduction of free education, upgrading of health services among others things.

“As a party, Burnham built institutions and leave with us, they can say what they want, there is no development in this country that contributed to people in the way the NIS did and every time we see or hear the NIS, we must see the vision of Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham, because Burnham, put the people of Guyana first,” the PNC/R leader said.
Mr. Norton said the policies of Mr. Burnham, especially that of free education, helped a large cross section of Guyanese.
He said although Mr. Burnham did not have trillions to spend on infrastructure, every infrastructure programme he developed was quality infrastructure that lasted more than 25 years.

He noted that every initiative undertaken by the late President benefited the people of Guyana.
