Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Aubrey Norton, has announced that the party will be conducting public education exercises to contradict the narrative seeking to rewrite the contributions of its Founder Leader and late President of Guyana, Forbes Burnham.
The party recently commemorated the 103rd Birth anniversary of its late Leader at his final resting place in the Botanical Gardens in Georgetown.
Describing Burnham as the greatest leader that Guyana produced, Mr. Norton said there have been efforts to re-write history and the contributions of Forbes Burnham to Guyana.
“This is the beginning of intensification of the provision of information on the contributions of Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham to Guyana, it cannot be erased, whether they like it or not, he is the greatest leader we produced,” Mr. Norton said to loud cheers from party faithfuls.
Mr. Norton said the time has come for the contributions of the late President to be properly recognized. He credited the PNC Founder for expanding the country’s road network and public infrastructure, introducing of free education from nursery to university, and upgrading health services across the country during his time in Government.
Mr. Burnham died in 1985.

“They are so adept at spreading misinformation that people tend—some to forget and some accepted because they do not know and it is our task to educate them and that is why today I have decided to speak on some of the important achievements of Linden Forbes Burnham. May I remind people, that when he came to power there were a few governments Health Centres and it was Burnham, and his son-in-Law, Richard Van-West Charles who I know contributed significantly to ensuring the establishment of a network of Health Canters across Guyana,” Mr. Norton recall.
Mr. Norton said decisions taken by Burnham to ensure regional and international relationships are solidified remain in tact today.
To this end, he said the party cannot sit and watch the legacy of its leader be erased.
“We have to work against this revision of history; the contributions of Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham are unmatchable. No other President—none, can claim to have contributed to Guyana in the way he did,” Norton said.
Norton said despite setbacks, the PNCR remains a party with a strong foundation and legacy.
