Three days after he was deported from the United States to Guyana, Kanand Ojha was remanded to prison for the murder of gay sex worker, Noel Luther back in July 2015.
Ojha was remanded to prison this morning when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman. His case will come up again on October 12, 2026 for report.
Ojha was on the run for more than 10 years. He is on of two persons who were named as suspects in the murder.
The man was arrested in Queens, New York last year and sent back to Guyana last Friday.
He was handed over to local law enforcement on arrival.
Ojha, who is originally from Meadow Bank on the East Bank of Demerara, is accused of gunning down the gay sex worker. His alleged accomplice, Ron “Andel” Forde, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2017, after pleading guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter in connection with the crime.
A wanted bulletin was first issued for Ojha in July 2019 in relation to the murder.
In September 2025, Law Enforcement Authorities in Queens, New York arrested Ojha and the process began for his removal from the United States.
