
(BVI News) Two Guyanese women have been arrested and charged following an operation in which police allegedly found two guns – an AK47 assault rifle and a 9mm Taurus handgun.
During the operation, which took place at a Butu Mountain home on Tortola yesterday (February 5, 2015), the cops also recovered ammunition.
Those charged are Sonja Williams, 29, and 25-year-old Sandrine Williams, according to a statement from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
Sonja has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition, and one count of unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm.
Sandrine, in the meantime, has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition, one count of unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, as well as one count of keeping a firearm.
Both women, who have been placed on bail, are to appear in the Magistrate’s Court on February 13.
The police also stated that a male remains in custody pending further investigations into the matter.
