Carpenter remanded to jail over possession of ammunition chrge

A Carpenter was today remanded to prison after he was charged for the offence of illegal possession of ammunition.

The Accused, 42-year-old, Shawn Appru, made his first Court appearance before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mclennan and denied the allegation made against him.

The charge stated that on the 22nd January at Second Street, La Penitance, he had three live .38 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The Attorney representing the accused told the Court that on the day in question, the Police raided an apartment where the defendant lives, but the ammunition was never found in his client’s apartment.

Instead, he claimed, the ammunition may have been found in an abandoned apartment that is next to the one where his client resides.

However, the Police Prosecutor objected to bail and stated that during the raid, the Police went to the man’s apartment and were to the room where the ammunition was found.

Bail was denied and the accused will make his next court appearance on the 7th February.
