Caribbean Airlines cancels over two dozens flights as Pilots stay away from work

Regional carrier, Caribbean Airlines was forced to cancel over two dozen flights on Sunday across its destinations, as many of the airlines’ pilots did not report for duty.

While the airline has officially described the reason behind the cancellations as “cockpit crew constraints”, it is suspected that the pilots have quietly started a protest action over salary issues.

The disruption comes in the middle of the busy summer travel season, as the airline pushes its “Welcome Home” campaign.

Airline officials in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have not been offering any comment on the situation.

Early on Sunday morning, the airline issued a notice on its official Facebook page, announcing multiple disruptions to its scheduled services. However, less that four hours later, the airline announced widespread cancellations across its network.

Both international and domestic flights are being affected.

In Guyana, all outgoing and incoming flights have been cancelled, with the local staff not being able to offer answers to irritated customers. The situation has resulted in many connecting passengers missing their other flights, while other passengers have found themselves stranded at the airports.

Many passengers only learnt of the disruptions and cancellations after turning up at the airports for their check-in and being told that the fights have been all cancelled.

The airline has released a list of cancelled flights on its social media pages, and is asking passengers not to travel to the airport if their flight number is listed among the affected flights. Instead, they are being told to monitor the airlines’ website www.caribbean-airlines.com for updates.
