
The Guyana Police Force launched its 2024 Christmas Policing programme this morning, with a plan that will see an increase in Police deployment and patrols at shopping areas, downtown Georgetown, commercial banks and nightspots across the country.
Explaining this year’s Christmas Policing strategy, Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum said the strategy is geared to ensure zero to minimal incidents and to keep citizens and visitors safe.
“There will be an increase in the deployment of boots on the ground including both uniform and plane clothes ranks by day and by night from Mondays- to Sundays during the festive season, there will be an increase deployment of anti-crim patrols, deployment of police patrols of hotspots especially during the peak hours,” Blanhum said.
In addition, the Crime Chief said the Police Force will be having regular briefings with members of the business community on security strategies to keep customers safe during and after the Christmas period.

Further, Asst. Commissioner Blanhum stated that all frontline officers will be equipped with handheld communication devices and body cameras. Drones will also be deployed to keep an eye on the busy areas from above.
“To improve our operational efficiency and outcomes, these technological devices will be used by our frontline and fully operational police booths will be located at various locations across the twelve police regions, especially in the main shopping districts,” the Crime Chief noted.
There will also be increased deployment of ranks at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport as well as the Eugene F Correia Airport to cater for the high influx of visitors expected.
