A Caribbean Airlines plane that departed Guyana on Saturday afternoon for a non-stop flight to New York was forced to make an emergency landing in The Bahamas as the plane developed a mechanical problem with one of its engines.
The flight, BW 526, had 134 passengers and 7 crew members on board. In a statement, the airline said the aircraft landed safely in The Bahamas at 10:51 pm on Saturday.
On arrival, it was met by Airport Services and the passengers were able to disembark the plane.
The aircraft has been withdrawn from service and will undergo inspections and procedures.
The airline said safety remains its number one priority.
