Attorney General files $4.1M lawsuit against man who crashed into Jaguar roundabout

Attorney General Anil Nandlall has filed a $4.1 million lawsuit against 28-year-old Norton Street, Georgetown resident, Troy Humphrey, seeking damages and compensation for the damage to a section of the Eccles “Jaguar” roundabout, that was caused when a car being driven by Humphrey slammed into the recently commissioned structure.

The incident took place on the 15th September. Humphrey’s speeding car was captured on video crashing into a section of the structure. The man was charged and remanded to jail for the accident, which also saw him and two occupants of the car sustaining multiple injuries.

His charges ranged from speeding to driving an uncertified vehicle. The traffic case is still ongoing in the Magistrates’ Court. However, with the Government being forced to effect emergency repairs to the structure weeks after its commissioning, the Government wants the driver to stand the full cost for the repairs in addition to other costs.

In his lawsuit, the Attorney General is seeking $1 million in damages for negligent driving, $1 million in damages for damage to public property and special damages in the sum of $2.1 million for the emergency repairs that were carried out.

The Attorney General is contending that the man’s recklessness was responsible for the damage to the public property and therefore, he should stand the costs for the state’s repairs to the structure.
