Motorcyclist shot dead at traffic light stop

A night out partying for a Mon Repos couple ended tragically this morning when 42-year-old Kimal Khan was shot dead on his motorcycle, as he waited for the traffic light to change on the Ogle Access Road, East Coast Demerara.

The incident took place just after midnight as the motorcyclist and his 21-year-old girlfriend were heading to the city.

A police report said the two left their Mon Repos home just after 11pm, and after visited two bars on the East Coast Demerara, where they consumed beverages.

They later decided to head to the city to continue the bar hopping, according to the Police report.

The report stated that as Khan, with his girlfriend at the back of the motorcycle, pulled up at a traffic light at the Ogle Access Road, a tinted silver grey car pulled up alongside them, and one of the occupants of the car opened fire on the couple.

The man fell onto the roadway with multiple gunshot injuries as the car sped away from the scene. The woman was uninjured.

The Police and Emergency Services were summoned and when they got to the scene, the 42 -year-old man was seen lying in a pool of blood motionless with the confused girlfriend nearby.

The Police report stated that the man sustained two gunshot wounds to the head and a third to the left side of the chest. Investigators believe he was the clear target.

Surveillance video recordings from the area are being examined, as the girlfriend is being questioned about the incident and all that she witnessed.

The investigations are ongoing.
