Police investigators are on the hunt for at least two armed men who shot a young driver dead on the Eccles Public Road this evening.
The dead man has been identified as 35-year-old Kelvin Walters. He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital with a gunshot wound to the face. Doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Details are sketchy about the shooting incident, but there are reports that the gunmen, who were on a motorcycle, attempted to get the driver to pull to the side of the roadway and when he refused, they shot him.
There are reports that the man’s wife and daughter were in the car with him at the time of the incident. Investigators are not sure whether it was a planned execution or a robbery attempt gone bad.
The shooting incident resulted in backed up traffic on the East Bank corridor for more than an hour, as investigators rushed down to the scene.
A probe has been launched.
