Police investigators have launched a probe into the stabbing death of a 45-year-old truck driver along the Eccles dumpsite road on the East Bank of Demerara.

The dead has been identified as Kerry Sears.

A police report said Sears was in the area on work related duties when he stopped to speak with another truck driver and his workers along the unlit roadway, which is under construction.

As the group of men were conversing at the side of the road, they were approached by 4 men who arrived on two motorcycles.

Two of the men were armed with a gun and a knife and demanded the belongings of the truck drivers and the workers. While the other truck driver and the workers were relieved of money and other valuables, Sears reportedly put up a fight and during a scuffle with one of the robbers, he was stabbed to the chest.

According to the Police, he ran to a nearby street where he collapsed and died, as the motorcycle riding perpetrators escaped from the scene.

Emergency Medical services arrived at the scene, and Sears was pronounced dead. It took Police investigators more than an hour to arrive at the scene.

The driver of the other truck and his porters were taken into custody for questioning and remain in custody according to Police investigators.
