Police investigators are probing the discovery of the lifeless body of a woman along the roadway in the New Diamond Housing Development on the East Bank of Demerara.

The woman’s identity is unknown. The body was discovered on Sunday morning by construction workers in the area. Two excavator operators told the Police that they were refueling their machinery when they noticed the woman’s body lying face down at the side of the roadway.

Police investigators were summoned to the area and during their probe, they noticed a bullet wound to the back of the woman’s head while a 9mm spent shell was discovered a short distance away.

The Police said the dead woman was found clad in a white t-shirt and black jeans with a pair of black flat shoes on her feet. A tattoo of a butterfly was found on the woman’s right arm.

The body has since been transferred to the Memorial Gardens mortuary as the investigations continue.
