Woman’s burnt body found in Parika yard; -Murder suspect being sought

The badly burnt body of a woman was found in a yard at Parika on the East Bank of Essequibo, and the woman’s family and investigators believe that she was murdered.

While the Police investigators have indicated that DNA tests will have to be conducted to positively identify the woman, the family of 29-year-old Parika resident, Shannen Obermuller-Mohamed are convinced that the remains are those of the young woman.

The 29-year-old was last seen alive when she left her family’s home on Tuesday to visit the site where she is currently building her own house.

She never returned home, but at around 10 o’ clock on Tuesday night, the Police said an anonymous caller informed officers that ther was a burnt body found at Parika in the same yard where the woman was constructing her house.

The Police arrived at the scene by 10:30 last night and discovered a burnt skull and upper body lying among the debris at the front of an incomplete concrete structure.

The Police also reported that they discovered a sledge hammer and a crowbar close to the charred remains.

According to a neighbour, at around 10 o’ clock on Tuesday morning, she noticed a man known as “Rodwell” burning wood and other materials in the yard. However, she was not suspicious of anything.

The family of the woman, Shannen Obermuller-Mohammed, said her house was being constructed by a man known as “Rodwell”.

The dead woman’s family also told investigators that before the Police were summoned last evening, they visiting the scene and saw the same construction worker walking away from the area, after they noticed a fire in the yard.

The family claims that the man is known to them, and although he is mentally unstable, he would still do good construction work. They said they hired him for a number of previous construction jobs.

Investigators have not been able to locate the man, but have questioned a number of other persons about the suspected murder.

The investigations are ongoing.
