Corentyne youths remanded to jail for murder of 52-year-old woman

Two young men from Corentyne, Berbice were charged today with the murder of 52-year-old Ninawattie Nandalall, who was a domestic worker in the same Corentyne village.

The woman’s lifeless body was found last Thursday morning in the backdam of Number 0 village, Corentyne. A post mortem examination revealed that she had been strangled and also suffered slash wounds to her neck and a broken cervical spine.

At the Springlands Magistrates’ Court today, 18-year-old labourer, Yogindra Pokhai aka Ravin, and 25-year-old Chrisan David aka Varen, were jointly charged with the woman’s murder. They were not required to enter a plea to the murder charge. The Court was told that the murder took place between last Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The two men were remanded to prison today and told that the case will continue on the 8th May.

The gruesome murder shocked the Corentyne community.

The woman’s body was found after a search was launched for her by family members after they could not make any contact with her when she did not return home.
