He may be the one friend who victims are probably hoping they never accepted.
A Georgetown man who used the social media site, Facebook, to scam persons looking to purchase vehicles, appeared in Court today facing multiple fraud charges.
24-year-old, Jermaine Fraser allegedly targeted persons on the various Facebook shopping pages to offer them big discounts on used vehicles that he does not own.
The Court found out today that on the 26th July, Fraser obtained a sum of $400,000 from Baldeo Puran, while pretending that he was in a position to obtain a Toyota 212 motorcar for the man.
On the 29th June, he collected a sum of $200,000 from Floyd Lafleur as downpayment for a mini-bus that he was advertising as being for sale. The bus was non-existent.
It was further alleged, on the 31st July, the accused obtained a sum of $1.4 million from Dawan Persaud for a Toyota motor car that he does not own.
He also collected $300,000 from Ashley Singh for a mini-bus that he had posted on the social media site as being for sale.
The accused who is well-known for posting in various Facebook Shopping Groups, would usually present his unsuspecting victims with unbeatable offers they would find hard to ignore. He would even present them with bogus documents for the vehicles.
In Court today, Fraser pleaded guilty to the fraud charges and bowed his head in shame as he was sentenced to three years in jail.
