An early morning accident at Friendship on the East Bank of Demerara has claimed the lives of five persons, according to the Police.
The accident involved a police car and at least two private vehicles. It occurred just after 6 o’clock this morning.
The smash up resulted in some of the passengers in one of the cars being pitched onto the roadway while the driver in the Police vehicle and the other vehicle were pinned.
The Guyana Fire service was called to the scene to cut open the smashed up vehicles to get the injured out. The injured were rushed to the Diamond Hospital where doctors pronounced five of them dead.
The names of the five persons who died in the accident have not been released.
