A Staff Sergeant and a Sergeant of the Guyana Defence Force, are in Police custody after they were arrested along the East Bank of Demerara roadway with a large quantity of marijuana in a vehicle belonging to the Guyana Defence Force.

The two, Staff Sergeant Adisa Higgins and Sergeant Colvis Sam, were busted at around 3:50 this morning at Land of Canaan on the East Bank Demerara, with several large parcels of marijuana stashed in the back of their military vehicle. The marijuana carried a total weight of 154 pounds.

The two, who were dressed in their GDF uniform, were immediately arrested by the Police and taken into custody. The Guyana Defence Force has been notified of the arrests. Both suspects belong to the Motor Transport Unit of the GDF, which is responsible for the Force’s transportation fleet and their maintenance.

Earlier this week, a Police rank based in Linden was arrested with a large quantity of marijuana along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
