Haslington woman busted with over 24 lbs cocaine in tea biscuit packets

Agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit have arrested a 59-year-old woman from Haslington on the East Coast of Demerara after she was busted with more than 24 pounds of cocaine in several biscuit packets.

The suspect, Unique Sunshine London, was an outgoing passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Wednesday destined for the US when she was held.

The CANU agents became suspicious after noticing a large quantity of biscuit packages in the woman’s carry-on luggage.  Additional checks of the packets revealed that they were full of cocaine and not tea biscuits.

London was immediately arrested. CANU said all of the substance in the packets tested positive for cocaine. The total value of the 24 pounds of cocaine is close to $12.3 million.

London appeared in Court this morning and was remanded to jail after pleading not guilty to the charges. Her next Court appearance will be in November.
