Missing farmer found dead in Essequibo river with head wrapped in bag and feet and hands tied

The search for a missing Essequibo farmer came to an end on Sunday when his lifeless body was found floating in the Essequibo river.

The dead man was identified as 35-year-old Romeo Randolph. His body was found in a decomposing state.

According to a Police statement, when the body was discovered floating in the river, the head was wrapped in a plastic bag that was duct taped and both feet and hands were tied.

A rope was also discovered tied to the man’s body and an outboard engine. Investigators suspect that whoever murdered the man, attempted to prevent his body from resurfacing by tying it to the boat engine and throwing both overboard.

The police report said the man who lived on Hogg Island in the Essequibo river was reported missing on Friday after his family who lives at Tuschen could not make any contact with him and he had not been seen.

The man’s wife said she was at home when she received a call from another farmer who told her that her husband’s boat had been spotted floating in the Essequibo river last Thursday with no trace of the husband.

While the wife and other relatives lived at Tuschen, the farmer operated from his Hogg Island home but would visit his family every weekend.

Police investigators said the wife visited the house on Hogg Island over the weekend and there was no trace of a break-in.

The matter is now under full investigation.
