Mahaicony businesswoman found murdered in House with hands and feet tied

Police on the East Coast of Demerara are probing the murder of a 56-year-old Mahaicony business woman. Her body was found this morning in her Novar, Mahaicony house with her hands and feet tied.

The dead woman has been identified as Bibi Shakeela Ali. She operated a small shop just under her house.  Neighbours became concerned about the woman on Monday morning after noticing that the shop remained closed.  She usually opens her shop very early in the mornings, according to a neighbour.

One of her neighbours decided to scale the fence and knock on the woman’s door. They heard no response and when the young man ventured in the house, he stumbled upon the lifeless body.  An alarm was raised and the woman’s relatives and the Police were contacted.

Persons in the area said the woman lived alone and had been previously attacked by bandits.  One neighbour said she had not been seen since Sunday afternoon and no strange sound was heard coming from the house.

The woman’s body was left on the floor of the house with the hands and feet tied up. The house was ransacked.

A relative of the woman who viewed the body, said it also bore a number of marks of violence, which points to her being badly beaten.

The investigation is ongoing.
