Mocha Arcadia clothes vendor shot dead during suspected robbery

51-year-old Mocha Arcadia vendor, Desiree Ann Hyman, was shot dead just outside her boutique in Mocha on Friday during a suspected robbery.

The incident took place at around 2:30pm.

The Police statement said Hyman was attacked at her business place by two motorcycle riding masked men. One of them was armed with a handgun. It is believed that the businesswoman resisted the men during the robbery and one of them opened fire on her.

She was shot five times to the abdomen and once to the chest.

The suspects made good their escape from the East Bank Demerara village on their motorcycle. The Police said nine spent shells were recovered from the scene and video recordings from nearby CCTV cameras are being examined.

Family and friends of the dead woman said she was a quiet person who operated her small business in the area for several years. Her husband said the last time he saw his wife alive was earlier the same day, when he dropped off a beverage for her at he shop.

A full investigation is underway.
