Cuban butcher shot dead during suspected early morning robbery

A 34-year-old butcher was shot dead this morning while on his way to work during a robbery attempt.

A police statement identified the dead man as Cuban national, Otredis Duarte Gonzalves. The incident reportedly occurred at 6:44 this morning while the butcher was on his way to the Rossignol Butchery on Church Street. He lived in East Street.

The man was reportedly cornered by two men on a motorcycle. One of the men was armed with a handgun.

During a confrontation with the men, one of them fired three shots at Gonzalves, striking him to the chest, his right wrist and under the chin.

Gonzalves collapsed and died on the spot as the motorcycle bandits made their escape.

The police statement said the two men are identifiable. The investigation is ongoing.
