Police Sergeant dies in early morning accident

25-year-old Police Sergeant, Renaldo Brummel, lost his life early this morning in a motor vehicle accident at Montrose on the East Coast of Demerara.

A Police statement indicated was riding his Honda motorcycle at around 12:30 this morning along the Montrose Public Road, when a white motorcar that was being driven in front of him made a sudden u-turn on the roadway and collided with the off-duty Policeman.

The car was being driven by 27-year-old Montrose resident, Ravin Singh.

As a result of the impact of the collision, the Policeman was pitched onto the roadway where he received multiple injuries to his head and body.

He was eventually picked up off the roadway and taken to the Georgetown Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The 27-year-old driver has been arrested by the Police as the investigations continue.

Police Sergeant Brummel was based at Traffic Headquarters, but was attached to the Police Commissioner’s Office at the time of his death.
