She received injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Residents of the woman claimed that she was returning home from a night spot in the city at about 04:00 hours when the incident occurred.

Investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident which occurred moments before sunrise on Thursday on the Goedverwagting Railway Embankment Road.

Dead is 38-year-old beautician, Laurel Forde of Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

Police said investigations have revealed that Forde was driving a motor vehicle allegedly at a fast rate when she lost control of the vehicle and collided with a concrete fence.

She received injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Residents of the woman claimed that she was returning home from a night spot in the city at about 04:00 hours when the incident occurred.

Police investigators are also probing reports that the woman may have been followed by a man she had an argument with at a city night spot.

There were no reports of eyewitnesses.

Meanwhile police are also investigating another fatal accident that occurred this morning on the at the Public Road, Mahaica.

That accident resulted in the death of pedal cyclist 55 – year – old Edmond Smith of Helena No. 1, Mahaica.

Police said their investigations have revealed that the pedal cyclist was proceeding along the roadway when he is alleged to have swerved into the path of a motor vehicle and was struck down. He received injuries and was transported to a city hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
