Three arrested with blank vaccination cards and sick leave forms

Police have arrested three men, ages 24, 37 and 42, as they continue their probe into the alleged theft of several medical equipment and blank COVID-19 vaccination books from the Health Ministry.

The police said two alarms were raised by a nurse attached to the Vreed-en-Hoop Health Centre when two of the suspects approached her with blank COVID-19 books and requested that the books be stamped.

“She checked the said books and observed that they were all blank and knowing that the suspects were not supposed to be in possession of them, she immediately brought the issue to the attention of her supervisor who subsequently reported the matter to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station,” The Police said.

In addition to the blue vaccination books, the Police said they conducted a search on the motorcar of the third suspect and found one black and gold stethoscope, seventeen blank sick leave forms which were all stamped with the West Demerara Regional Hospital stamp, and another vaccination booklet which was not stamped, but carried the name and address of a person.

The Police said a search of the home of the third suspect unearthed one diabetes testing kit and one blood pressure testing machine in the man’s bedroom.

The police said the suspect was questioned about the items and although he claimed he purchased them, he could not produce receipts to substantiate his claims.

Searches were also done at the homes of the other two suspects homes but nothing of evidential value was found, the police said.

The three suspects have been placed into custody pending further investigation.
