
Three persons, including two Venezuelan nationals, are facing drug trafficking charges after they were nabbed on Sunday by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit with just over seven pounds of cocaine in their possession.
A statement from CANU indicated that its ranks were conducting an operation in the Cummings Lodge area on the East Coast of Demerara when they intercepted three persons, two Venezuelans and a Guyanese, with a backpack in their possession.
CANU said a search of the backpack reveaed three large brick like parcels, and further investigation of the contents of the parcels, revealed the cocaine bricks.
CANU immediately arrested Guyanese, 53-year-old Gavin Adans, and Venezuelan nationals, 35-year-old Jose Gregorio Gomez and 22-year-old Kevin DeJesus.
CANU said investigations are ongoing as the three remain in custody.
