EU, UK and US ready to offer elections support and monitoring

In a joint statement today, the US, UK and EU Missions in Guyana indicated their support to ensure free and fair elections in Guyana.

The statement came a day after President David Granger confirmed that elections will be held on the 2nd March 2020.

The three foreign missions indicated that they have taken note of the President’s announcement of a firm election date and they are pleased to support with elections assistance and monitoring along with other colleagues in the international community.

Last week the three diplomatic missions urged the President to set a date for elections and also claimed that with elections not held by the 18th September, the Government had breached the Constitution.

However, President David Granger made it clear in a statement to the press that there had been no breach of the constitution by his government and the foreign missions ought to allow the Government of Guyana to address the issues of Guyana.
