PPP Confident of victory in Monday’s elections; Encourages large voter turnout to ensure super majority

The People’s Progressive Party Civic closed off its 2025 election campaign with a large rally at the Lusignan Market square on Saturday night with the party’s leaders making the final case for their re-election.

President Irfaan Ali in addressing a sea of supporters said his party is best suited to lead the country into a bright future. He told party supporters that the PPP has kept all of its promises from 2020 and endeavors to do more with a mandate from the people on Monday.

He said the PPP’s plan rests on national unity, explaining that “national unity must become the living spirit of our nation, the bond that transcends our differences and lifts us towards a common purpose. My Government in the months ahead will forge stronger bonds of national unity, built on the recognition that though we may come from different walks of life, we are bond together by a shared identity, common values and a collective dream of progress”, Ali said.

The President said a next Government under his watch will ensure there is fairness in the society, and where inclusion becomes a greater part of life for every citizen.

“I commit therefore that any future Government that I lead will not merely preserve this ideal, but will deepen it, strengthen our national institution to inspire trust by embedding equity and inclusiveness into every policy and by fostering a culture of respect for diversity, a pledge to continue to shape a nation in which national unity stands as an enduring foundation of our peace, progress and prosperity”, the President told supporters.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Phillips encouraged citizens to “get up early and vote” on Monday. He said they should also ensure they take their friends and relatives to the poll to cast their ballot.

“We want a super majority government because we have to have that super majority to pass all the bills in parliament to bring better standard of living to you”, the Prime Minister said as he pressed for a large turn out of party supporters at Monday’s elections.

Prime Minister Phillips said the PPP over the past five years has implemented various policies and programmes that he believes have improved the lives of citizens and ease the burden in the rise of the cost of living.

Rallying supporters for five more years, PPP General Secretary, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo told the Lusignan rally that he is even more confident now that the governing party will win Monday’s elections because that party has not only kept its promises, but has grown in numbers over the last five years.

According to Mr. Jagdeo, there is no other party at this time that can move the country forward.

“Look how much we have grown from 2020 to now, people who have campaigned against us are here in large numbers, walking the streets of Guyana, carrying the message. In local government elections we had sweeping victories in many areas previously supported by APNU. Our party has grown, we still remain the largest Amerindian party, the largest Indo-Guyanese party and I am looking after these elections to call this party the largest Afro-Guyanese party in the country too,” Jagdeo said.

Mr. Jagdeo believes that his party will pick up thousands of votes in areas it was previously rejected because of the work it was able to do in those communities.

However, he cautioned supporters and first time voters not to be swayed by promises but to examine the PPP’s performance since 2020.

“Tonight, I can tell you 100 compelling reasons why you should vote for the People’s Progressive Party, for those who are listening you have heard some of them, from Education, to healthcare, to housing, to jobs to putting more monies in people’s pockets and ensuring dignity—even our women and children and farmers and miners and out fishermen, I can tell you one hundred reasons,” Jagdeo said.

Mr. Jagdeo said his party is the only party that is seeking to bridge the racial divide in Guyana. He accused the other parties of fear mongering and called for them to be rejected.

The Vice President is predicting the PPP’s return to office with a big majority after Monday’s elections.
