The Guyana Police Force is on the hunt for the driver of a motor pick-up vehicle who abandoned the vehicle leaving several parcels of cocaine behind.
The incident occurred on Friday at Five Miles along the Ituni Trail in the Upper Demerara River area. The abandoned cocaine weighs 72.1 pounds, according to a Police statement.
The Police explained that a group of ranks were conducting an operation at around 5pm on Friday evening along the Ituni trail, when the ranks observed a motor pickup traveling out of the trail.
The Police reported that after the driver of the pick-up spotted the Police ranks, he stopped the vehicle and escaped into the nearby bushes leaving the vehicle behind.
The Police did not indicate whether any of its ranks chased after the man, but said a search of the abandoned vehicle unearthed a bag just behind the driver’s seat with 30 large parcels in it.
An examination of those parcels revealed the parcels of cocaine.
The cocaine and the vehicle were both confiscated and lodged at the Mackenzie Police Station in Linden. The investigations into the discovery are ongoing. There have been no arrests so far.
Two days before this latest bust, the Police found over $455,000 in cash and 78 pounds of marijuana during an operation in the same area. One person was held in connection with that bust.
