Police investigators in Berbice have arrested a taxi driver, who was nabbed with 258 pounds of marijuana in the back seat and trunk of his motorcar.
The Police said ranks were conducting an intelligence-led operation at the time of the bust. The seized marijuana is believed to have a street value of $35 million.
The Police said its operation was being done along the #45 village public road when the ranks intercepted the car with the 33-year-old taxi driver behind the steering wheel. The taxi driver is from the Corriverton area.
According to the statement from the police, the marijuana was found in a total of 53 large parcels which were stashed in salt bags.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time and he was taken into custody.
Investigations are continuing.
