
50-year-old Guyanese-born US General Surgeon, Dr. Malcolm Goodchild, died tragically on Saturday night in a two-vehicle accident in Opelika, Alabama in the United States.
A report from the Opelika Police Department stated that at around 7:17pm on Saturday, emergency calls were receieved about a multiple vehicular smash-up along the Interstate 85 Highway.
At the scene, emergency crews found a Tesla and a Toyota 4 runner, which appeared to have crashed into each other head on. The Tesla, which was being driven by Dr. Goodchild, reportedly burst into flames following the collision.
The Police report indicated that emergency crews were able to get the occupants out of both vehicles and transport them to the hospital. Dr. Goodchild was air-dashed to the Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, where he died.

The other occupant from his car remains hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries, while the driver of the Toyota 4-Runner also remains hospitalised, but in a critical condition.
The Police stated that initial investigations have revealed that the driver of the Toyota 4-Runner appears to have been traveling the wrong way on the exit ramp along the highway when they struck the Tesla, which was being driven by Dr. Goodchild.
The investigations are ongoing.
Dr. Malcolm Goodchild was part of an Overseas Medical Team that travels to Guyana annually to perform surgeries in Linden and other parts of Guyana. He was originally from New Amsterdam in Berbice.
Many of his close friends have offered glowing tributes across social media, describing him as someone who was a caring professional and family man. He celebrated his 50th birthday last November.
