An 11-year-old boy was shot dead by bandits in C’ Field, Sophia today during a robbery. The child has been identified as Anthony Cort.
A Police report said the boy and his mother were at the home of a businesswoman when two armed men invaded the property.
The boy was in the upper flat of the house while the bandits robbed a number of persons in the bottom flat of the building of a quantity of cash and jewellery.
According to the Police, the bandits ordered the robbery victims to the upper flat of the house and it was around the same time that the young boy exited a bedroom in the same upper flat. One of the bandits opened fire, hitting the child his the left shoulder.
The suspects bolted from the scene after the shooting, scaling the back fence of the building and making good their escape.
Emergency services were summoned and the child was pronounced dead at the scene. A 9mm spent shell was found close to his body.
The Guyana Police Force has launched a massive investigation.
