The Official List of Electors has more than 750,000 persons listed to vote.

On the issue of the removal of names of deceased persons from the List of Electors, Ms. Ward, during an appearance on SOURCES which airs this Sunday, said the Elections Secretariat has consistently removed the names of dead persons from the List. However, she said the Commission is confronted by many issues.

“There are many issues, for example, the death may not have been registered so the GRO may not be able to send that to us. A relative not have presented the requisite documentation for us to do that removal,” she explained.

The GECOM Public Relations Officer assured that there are many safeguards in place to prevent voter impersonation, and fraudulent voting by persons on behalf of the dead.

“We have published the safeguards that are in place, particularly when it comes to the integrity of the conduct of the poll to ensure that we do not have a case of impersonation, to ensure that a voter who presents themselves to vote is the person who will be casting their ballot, and there are safeguards in place for that,” Ward assured.

There are six parties contesting Monday’s elections.
