The Guyana Police Force and the Ministry of Labour are probing the death of a young worker at a construction site in the city.
The 18-year-old construction worker identified as Javid Shaw, was working on the steel beams of a Lamaha Street building when he fell, hitting the concreted yard below.
Emergency crews were called to the scene, but the youth died at a city hospital from multiple injuries.
Persons nearby said there was a loud sound when the teenage worker fell. Many of his co-workers rushed to his aid, but their efforts to save him after he fell were not good enough.
The Ministry of Labour has been repeatedly warning contractors about having their workers on worksites with improper safety gear.
The construction site death is under probe.
