A 19-year-old female teacher from Craig on the East Bank of Demerara was stabbed to death overnight at her home by her 21-year-old boyfriend who is claiming that the murder was an accident.
A police report on the incident said the two allegedly got into an argument and the young man claimed that the woman, Shenese Walks, armed herself with a knife and attempted to attack him.
He reported that during a scuffle as he attempted to take the knife away from her, she got stabbed to the neck.
The man left the woman in the house and locked the doors and contacted his brother this midday and reported what took place. The brother and an aunt immediately escorted him to the Grove Police Station where he was taken into custody after relating what had taken place.
The Police visited the Craig home where the woman lived and found her body on the floor with the knife still stuck in her neck.
A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body as the investigations continue. The suspect remains in custody.
