There are almost 1200 active cases of Coronavirus in the country and the nation’s death toll jumped to 591 today as the country recorded three additional deaths.
Based on the figures released by the Health Ministry, the past week, Guyana has recorded a total of 21 COVID-19 related deaths and a whopping 703 new cases.
The majority of new cases continue to come from Regions 2, 3 and 4. Despite Region 4 maintaining its position as the most affected COVID-19 region with over 10,000 cases recorded in the past year, there is no toughening up of measures to stem the spread.
The spike in new cases is coming at a time when the Ministries of Health and Education are examining a plan to get children vaccinated and reopen schools in September.
The vaccination rate has been climbing steadily since the government introduced several measures against unvaccinated persons accessing government services and facilities.
