Over 1000 new COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths recorded in five days

In the first five days of the month of October, Guyana has recorded just over 1,100 new COVID-19 cases and a total of 20 deaths.

The trend remains worrying for Health Officials who fear that the current spread of the virus could continue for weeks if more persons do not get vaccinated and follow the COVID-19 guidelines.

The Ministry of Health has reported that Regions 3 and 4 continue to be the hotspot regions, recording more than 80% of the new cases.

In the past 24 hours, Region Four alone has recorded 136 new cases while Region 3 has recorded 52 new cases.

Health officials believe the continuous flouting of the COVID-19 safety guidelines is to be blamed for the continuing rise in new cases.

The total number of active cases stands at 3704 with 34 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive care unit.
