Nine more COVID-19 deaths recorded by the Ministry of Health have pushed Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll to 683. A total of 58 deaths were recorded within the first 12 days of September.

The number of new cases continues to climb steadily with 194 new cases recorded as of Saturday, taking the total number of active cases in the country to over 3000.

In the past five days alone, the country has recorded 1,176 new cases of the virus, with the majority of those new cases in Regions 4 and 3.

The Health Ministry continues to encourage persons to practice the safety guidelines as there are active cases in every region across the country.

The country’s main hotspots are in parts of Regions 3, 4 and 7.

Health officials continue to warn that the faster spreading and deadlier Delta variant of the virus is currently in Guyana and therefore additional precautions should be employed.
