The death of a 69-year-old handyman whose body was found floating in the Mazaruni river has been ruled a homicide, triggering a full investigation.
The body of the West Demerara man, Pitamber Sharma was found yesterday with a wound to the head.
The man was last seen alive on Wednesday morning when he left his La Grange, West Bank Demerara home to travel to the quarry site for his job.
He was spotted at the quarry site but his lifeless body was discovered the next day in the Mazaruni river.
He was pronounced dead after his body was transferred to a hospital.
A post-mortem examination has ruled the cause of death as blunt trauma to the head.
The owner of the quarry site has told investigators that he will provide full cooperation and turn over video recordings from around the site which were captured by CCTV cameras.
The investigations are ongoing.
