The three men and two elderly women who were arrested at a Prashad Nagar house after more than 20 pounds of cocaine was found along with ecstasy pills appeared in Court today and were slapped with drug trafficking charges.
However, they were each granted bail in the sum of $500,000.
The five, 60-year-old James Hubert, 62-year-old Lena Narine aka, 71-year-old Jennifer Butcher, 27- year-old Jamal Narine, and 47-year-old, Gregory Faria all pleaded not guilty to the drug trafficking charges.
While all five were charged in connection with the cocaine bust, 62-year-old Lena Narine faced an additional charge for possession of the ecstasy pills. She was also granted $500,000 bail on the additional charge.
The five persons were arrested on the 29th of March during a CANU operation in the Prashad Nagar area. The five were reportedly being closely monitored by CANU and the agents moved in and made the bust as there was a reported handover of the bag containing the cocaine.
CANU agents believe the cocaine was being prepared for shipment out of Guyana. The five accused will make their next Court appearance in May.
