Congress Place not sold and will never be sold -says PNCR General Secretary

General Secretary of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), Sherwin Benjamin has denied that the party has sold its home in Sophia—the Congress Place.

Instead, Benjamin said the business arm of the party has been activated.

He did not get into details as to what business ventures the party has gone into, but large equipment belonging to a private company were seen clearing lands in the compound of Congress place.

At a press conference today, Benjamin said he is not at liberty to offer details on some of the party’s business ventures, but he noted that the party’s membership stands to benefit.

“Every decision we make as a political party is a decision that benefit the party, its members, its supporters and all of Guyana. I am not at liberty to get into detail about that the party will do and has done but what I will say to you today that any decision that we wake as a political party has and will benefit the party itself, the members of the party and our supporters,” Benjamin said.

Benjamin wants PNCR supporters to know that Congress Place remains intact and they should trust the leadership of the party.

“We have not sold Congress Place, Congress Place will not be sold, will never be sold and I want to say to our members and supporters that you have to have faith in the leadership of this party. We have been upfront with you, we have ben engaging with you from and before the elections and not be sidetracked by the social media gossip,” Benjamin urged.

The party’s General Council, which meets to ratify crucial decisions has not met, and that has raised questions some of the decisions being made.

Benjamin told the news conference that himself and party leader, Aubrey Norton, have been engaging the Central Executive Committee.

He said the General Council will meet by the end of the year and he is confident that they will ratify those decisions.

“Not holding General Council which we intend to hold later this year, does not mean that we have shied away from our democratic principles. We have had prior to elections a general council, we will have a general council before the end of this year and all decisions during the period will be well ventilated and I am sure because we have been in contact with our members that those decisions will be ratified,” Benjamin said.

The PNC owns several properties across Region 4 and its headquarters sits on acres land in the Sophia area. News Source understands that a number of businesses have made pitches to the party with an interest of renting some of its properties and available land.
