Dawn Hastings-Williams resigns as General Secretary of PNCR

In a shock move coming just days before the Biennial Delegates Congress and Elections of the People’s National Congress Reform, the party’s General Secretary, Dawn Hastings-Williams has tendered her resignation from that position.

In a letter to party leader, Aubrey Norton, Ms. Hastings-Williams cited the lack of readiness for this weekend’s congress and elections as one of the reasons for her decision to step away from the position of General Secretary, in addition to having concerns about financial accountability.

With regards to the upcoming congress and elections, she said she believes a one-month period for preparation for such a congress can lead to confusion rather than having a fair and transparent process and outcome.

She complained also that she has not been allowed to be involved in many aspects of the planning of the upcoming congress and elections as the general secretary, noting that she has been sidelined in many instances.

With regard to the finances in the party, Hastings-Williams said over the past year as General Secretary has has been unable to provide any financial statement to the Central Executive Committee because she has been denied access to the party’s monthly income and expenditure statements.

She also said the environment at Congress Place at this time is not conducive to working, with some persons issuing loud threats regularly.
