The Alliance For Change, which is a partner in the coalition government, is standing by its Chairman and former Leader, Khemraj Ramjattan, in his government portfolio as Public Security Minister.
The party at its 3rd National Executive meeting for the year, unanimously passed a motion reposing its full and complete confidence in Mr. Ramjattan, as Minister of Public Security.
There have been several calls for Ramjattan to resign following the two jailbreaks and the fire, which gutted the Camp Street jail.
Mr. Ramjattan has said the word “resignation” is not one that he associates with, and therefore he has no plans to resign from office.
In the statement on Sunday, the AFC said It was noted that despite the challenges, public order has been maintained and that the recapture of most of the escaped prisoners was done in a relatively short period of time and largely without incident.
The motion also noted the decades long historical and systemic difficulties relating to the public security sector.
