Alvin Kallicharran bats for APNU+AFC; endorses coalition for May 11 polls

Legendary former Guyana and West Indies Cricket Captain, Alvin Kallicharran has taken the crease for the APNU+AFC coalition as the country heads to the polls on Monday, May 11.

The Port Mourant, Corentyne native who remains one of the most iconic and respected Guyanese and West Indian cricketers of all times has announced his endorsement for Presidential Candidate David Granger and his coalition team.

In his statement, Kallicharran complained about the lack of development in the area of local sports. He believes it is time for a new batting order in the Guyana line up.

“I am convinced that a lot more can be done if government partners with the various associations for the promotion of sports rather than trying to take control of it. After careful thought I have decided to endorse the APNU+AFC because I think it is time for change”, Kallicharran said in a full page advertisement in the daily newspapers.

He added that he recently travelled across Guyana and spent time observing what was going on in the country.

The cricketing great is convinced that “after 23 years it is clear that sports has been neglected in Guyana. We have heard enough promises from this government and what they will do after this election when for the past two decades they had the opportunity to deliver on these promises and failed. It is time for change”.
