APNU rallies Hopetown for support; Offers programmes to fast track community’s development

Candidates for the APNU have urged residents of Region Five to support their leader, Aubrey Norton, with the opportunity to lead the country.

Businessman and APNU Candidate, Saiku Andrews, in an address to a rally in Hopetown on Saturday, said voters have an important choice to make at next Monday’s elections. He said it will be a choice that will either change their future for the better or one that will maintain the status quo.

Andrews said for the past five years, the country has seen inequality rise to “never before seen” levels, and although the country may be doing better, he contends that citizens are not better off.

To the younger voters, he pleaded for their support and encouraged them not to play around with the votes.

“I say to you Hopetown, that there is no Presidential Candidate in this race, that is better positioned and suited to create policies and programmes that will benefit you and take your lives from poverty to prosperity—one and only one Aubrey Compton Norton,” Andrews told supporters.

Another APNU Candidate, former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr. Paul Williams, who believes that the historical village of Hopetown has been historically victimized by the PPP/C, said communities like Hopetown should have been vibrant with economic activities. Instead, he noted, the communities have been ignored by the same current Government that is now making new promises. He said the PPP/C must be rejected.

“Some of you are still allowing yourselves to be fooled, wake up Hopetown, no time to be fooled anymore, this is a serious, serious time, this election is serious business, and if we don’t realize how serious it is, September 1st is going to come and passed and you will still be there wondering. So please, it is time for you to wake up,” Williams pleaded.

Williams also warned party faithful not be duped by the WIN party and to remain faithful ahead of the September 1 polls.

Meanwhile, APNU Presidential Candidate, Aubrey Norton has promised to revive economic activity in Hopetown and the wider Region 5, noting the Region’s potential for growth in the Agriculture and other sectors.

Norton said those plans can only materialize if people take their future into their own hands on Elections day.

“The PPP believes that they have power, but power rest in your hands, it is you who have power, when you take that mark and put that x next to the palm, you will be exercising the power to get rid of the People’s Progressive Party. When you mark that x, you are voting for yourself, for your freedom, this corrupt government has removed many of our freedoms,” Norton told Hopetown.

Norton asked the people to trust him and promised to put them first.

“And so, we make this pledge to you, that we will be putting you first, that we will be putting people first and that the policy that we will develop will serve you, the people of Guyana. We have said that we believe that our senior citizens have worked and serve this country and it is ridiculous to give them $41,000 and so we made it clear that those senior citizens will get $100,000 per month” Norton said as he rolled out his party’s promises,

APNU Prime Ministerial Candidate, Juretha Fernandes also spoke of the party’s plans for the Region and the Guyanese people, promising serious progress within the first 100 days of an APNU administration.
