APNU+AFC promises 20% increase for all law enforcement officers, better salaries for teachers and public servants and improved security

An early draft of the APNU+AFC manifesto was leaked on Thursday evening showcasing the coalition’s vision for unity, stability and development with highlights that include a 20 percent salary increase for all law enforcement officers within the coalition’s first year in office.

The colourful and detailed 44 pages document also boasts of the creation of thousands of job, unstipulated increases in pensions and rises in teachers’ salaries as an APNU+AFC administration would seek to make improvements in several sectors and stamp out corruption.

With regards to the security sector, the coalition has been saying that the current PPP/C administration has failed to ensure human safety and public security. The APNU+AFC now promises the creation of a Ministry of Justice and National Security to better coordinate all aspects of public safety.

The coalition acknowledged the spiral in serious crimes and promises to complete the implementation of recommendations of several local and international reports while granting full permission to the US Drug Enforcement Administration – DEA – to establish it local facility.

The coalition also plans to improve training for law enforcement officials and pass complimentary and updated legislation along with an overhaul of the 911 system to compliment the work done in other areas.

The plans for the security sector are extensive but also includes mandatory life in prison sentences for persons convicted of three violent felonies and the establishment of a police air unit at the Ogle International Airport.

As the coalition seeks to manage traffic and coordinate road safety citizens can look forward to the reintroduction of the big buses along long routes and the construction of two bus terminals just outside Georgetown.

Undercover traffic police will be deployed and there is expected to be a revamp of the drivers licensing system to eliminate the buying of licenses.

The document also promises citizens a tougher stance against corruption should the coalition secure a victory at the May 11polls.

The document details the coalition’s commitment to ending  the current culture of “winner takes all politics” and notes that members of the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic could be invited into the new Cabinet as the APNU+AFC seeks to build an inclusive, responsive and accountable government.

The coalition which continues to dedicate its efforts towards the elimination of racial disunity in Guyana says citizens can expect equal opportunities regardless of wealth or political affiliation.

In keeping with its plan to foster unity among citizens and develop a stable economy, the coalition proposes that within the first 100 days in office, citizens can expect the coalition government to establish a constitutional reform committee which will complete consultations, draft amendments and present it to the National Assembly for approval within nine months.

The APNU+AFC promises to also liberalize the telecommunication and ICT sectors, announce a date for the holding of long overdue local government elections and develop and implement a sustained national crime prevention plan.

Within the first 100 days the APNU+AFC also plans to establish the public procurement commission, adopt a long term sustainable economic development plan to realize the vast potential of Guyana and implement  an amended anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism act.

Other priority areas to be address include review of current taxation policies, constitutional reform and the introduction of a national youth program.

The Coalition is still to announce an official launch date for the manifesto but noted that the document that was leaked is still to be completed. News Source understands that an official launch could come as early as this weekend. (Kurt Campbell)
