Attorneys for US Government present key documents to Court in Mohameds extradition case

Attorneys representing the United States Government in the extradition proceedings against Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed, handed over key documents to the Court this morning as the hearing continued.

Those documents included a diplomatic note and warrants from US authorities.

In late October, the US Government formally requested the extradition of the father and son to face an 11-count indictment in Florida related to allegations of mail fraud and wire fraud and money laundering related to gold exports and tax evasion claims.

In support of its request, the Attorneys for the US Government, Terrence Williams KC, Celine Deidrick, Herbert McKenzie and Glenn Hanoman, presented the Court with the documents from the US Government seeking the extradition.

The Attorneys told the Court that additional documents in support of extradition will be presented.

“We would have delivered the regular diplomatic documents and case evidence documents, which are all standard in extradition matters,” Williams told reporters as he exited the Court room.

Meanwhile, Defence Attorney, Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde told reporters that the Defence team is still to thoroughly go through the documents submitted. He, however, said based on his perusal, the documents do not include evidence to support the US’ claim that the Mohameds are linked to an international criminal enterprise with tentacles in the US, Venezuela and the Middle East.

“Absolutely none, absolutely none,” Forde told reporters.

He said the Prosecution has been given the opportunity to make further disclosures, and when they do, the Defence team will thoroughly go through the documents. He said the team wants all documents disclosed.

“We would have seen a request from the United States to the Government of Guyana, but we have not been able to study them, because they are extensive documents. We are asking for the prosecutors to reveal all the documents that they have in their position which is related to this matter,” Forde said.

Forde is representing the Mohameds together with Attorney Siand Dhurjon.

The case has been adjourned to November 24, 2025, when the Prosecution is expected to make further disclosures to the Court.
