The Guyana Elections Commission has indicated that the live audio stream of the vote recount will be broadcast via its official website (www.gecom.org.gy) and its Facebook and Youtube pages.

The announcement came from the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Yolanda Ward.

Asked whether special feeds will be made available for radio and tv stations that might want to carry the audio stream of the recount, Ms. Ward said that was not considered, but she will have a discussion on how that could be accommodated. The Commission has started to test the audio stream on its Facebook page.

The gazetted order for the recount allows the live audio stream for the counting process while a live audio and video stream will be allowed when the tabulation process begins.

Earlier today, the Guyana Elections Commission moved the containers with the ballot boxes from its Kingston headquarters to the Arthur Chung Convention Centre where the recount will take place.

The recount is set to begin at 8 o’clock on Wednesday morning and run until 7pm. GECOM has given a 25-day timeline for the completion of the process.

Political parties were written to on Monday by the GECOM Chair for them to submit a list of their agents who will be part of the recount. Those lists were expected to be completed and presented to the Commission today.

Each political party will be allowed an agent in each of the ten counting stations. Those working stations will also have GECOM staff members who will be doing the recount along with 2 observers (international and local) and members of the CARICOM high-level team that will be scrutinizing the process.

The team has been in Guyana since last Friday.
