Barry Dataram bolts from Guyana as cocaine trial nears end; Interpol to be informed

Self-confessed drug lord, Barry Dataram, is reportedly hiding out in Suriname after bolting to the neighbouring country as his drug trafficking trial nears an end.

Dataram was a no show at the Georgetown Magistrates Court today where his trial for allegedly being in possession of over 225 pounds of cocaine, is ongoing. He was on $4 million bail.

Dataram’s reputed wife, Anjanie Boodnarine, who is a co-accused in the same case, was also a no show in court today and is believed to be on the run with him. Arrests warrants have been issued for the pair.

The other two co-accused were present for the hearing.

Dataram’s Attorney, Glen Hanoman told News Source that he last spoke with his client via phone around 1:20pm today, 10 minutes before the schedule start of the day’s hearing.  He said when he questioned Dataram why he was not at court as yet, the man told him that he was on his way.

The Attorney said when he made two additional calls to the number, there was no answer but on a third try, a woman answered the phone claiming to be an aunt of Dataram. She did not provide information about his whereabouts but wanted to know the status of the case. Mr. Hanoman said he has not heard from his client since that 1:20pm call.

Intelligence sources have told News Source that it is suspected that Dataram traveled to Suriname sometime on Monday in the company of other persons and has been making efforts since then to get out of Suriname.

News Source understands that local law enforcement is expected to issue an alert to Interpol and have an international arrest warrant issued for Dataram.

Barry Dataram is well known to US Drug Enforcement agents and is wanted in the US on a number of drug trafficking charges. A few years ago he had successfully fought off an attempt to have him extradited.

He was arrested along with his reputed wife and two other men in April 2015 and charged for cocaine possession after the large packets of cocaine were found in a Diamond house where the four were nabbed.

While he has declared his innocence in court and has been fighting the charges, he appeared on an evening newscast earlier this year to declare that he was indeed a drug king pin who was involved in drug trafficking.
